            Hochschule der bildenden Künste Essen (HBK for short)  in Essen, Germany is a national private art and design university. HBK offers students liberal arts and design degrees, and provides high-quality teaching and practice within the perspective of a holistic educational proposition.

           The goal of HBK is for all students to develop for themselves a personal artistic or creative work, position and personality. These should enable them to confidently navigate the changing and globalized world of art and work in the digital process as freelance artists or designers, helping to shape society in the long term.

Multiple workshops

          Each student has their own studio or workbench for distraction-free creation at any time. The college's 11 laboratories and workshops meet the practical courses of daily teaching. Including 3D printing lab, VR virtual creation lab, printing workshop, photocopying workshop, photography workshop, digital media workshop, metal workshop, wood workshop, plaster workshop, etc.

Advanced Labs and Creative Projects

          With a state-of-the-art 3D printing center, it is an interdisciplinary new digital space art laboratory. In 2019, the center undertook the virtual space creation project "FutureLab" in NRW, and shared its research results with other universities in NRW.

            Taking the teaching methods of Western art majors as the core, Internationales Studienzentrum NRW's foundation course provides the most optimized training mode and further education channels for art students to study in top art and design schools in Germany. Helping students develop creative and unique artistic thinking and personality orientation, and devote themselves to cultivating designers and artists who meet the needs of the times and society.

            Admission requirements:

- over 17 years old  

- Graduates of high school or equivalent  

- German A2 or above  

- interested in art
